Coffee Pods: Single Serving Perfection

Friday, October 31st, 2008

Freshly Roasted, Ground And Put Into A Paper Packet

Most coffee lovers will agree that nothing beats the taste of percolated coffee. Especially the wonderful smell when it is brewed first thing in the morning. It is this reason why so many people are turning to the relatively new sensation of coffee pods. The taste of fresh coffee changes considerably from the often used dry instant coffee.

The aroma alone tells you that the coffee is not fresh and therefore you will automatically know that you are not getting the best out of coffee. Most coffee machines are relatively cheap these days and you don’t have to spend a pretty penny just because you want the real taste of coffee. It seems that with ethical issues on the rise most people are opting for the fair trade coffee pods.

People often want to shy away from coffee pods or coffee making machines because they have a concern that it might take too long or is rather expensive. Fortunately these concerns can be viewed as myths as anyone can enjoy freshly ground java.

The convenience and ease of making coffee that is delivered by the coffee pod makes it a must have for all coffee lovers. For the morning rush you can put on a fresh cup using your coffee pods just before you go shower so you can have a fresh cup waiting when you’re done. Automated coffee-making machines are standard equipment in most homes these days. Now you can customize your daily brew to coincide with your mood by taking advantage of single serving coffee makers. They wake you up to the wonderful smell of coffee aromas. So there is no excuse for missing out.

Gourmet Espresso In Coffee Pods

The love of coffee absolutely extends to the wonderful taste of espresso. So it’s clear why so many people are keen on these coffee pods. There are a couple of different types of pods systems out there for you to choose from. The first is the Senseo pod system which uses a single serving, pre-measured coffee filled filter to make the perfect cup whenever you like. Another popular single serving system is Keurig brewing system. Their patented K-cups deliver over 130 varieties of gourmet coffee in less than 60 seconds. Plus there is no mess to clean up. The coffee club fanatics hail the coffee pod and k-cup systems as the greatest invention since coffee machines and it is not hard to see why.

Once you have had a taste of great gourmet coffee, especially espresso coffee, you might find it hard to drink anything else for your morning cup of joe. It can be sometimes hard to get the espresso right as it entails so many components such as water temperature, perfect grind and so on. However with the coffee pods even the most inexperienced coffee maker will perform like a professional. It is not hard to understand why the coffee pods are a hit on the coffee scene in a big way.

A Golf School for the Best of the Best

Friday, October 31st, 2008

Have you ever dreamt of becoming the next Tiger Woods or the next Karrie Webb? Have you gone to the golf range determined to be the best but never quite know how to become the best? Do not fret because help is now available for everyone and anyone who wants to turn their passion for golf into a successful career. A large number of golf academies and golf schools have emerged since the 1970s to help the golfer who works hard to change from an amateur to a professional, but finding the right golf school for you is the greater task at hand.

Golf.com has listed the top 25 schools in the US, according to a pre-determined criterion for judging. Scattered all over the US, these schools teach the best of the best from the best in the field. Some of these schools offer workshops, learning group programs, golf outings, private lessons and intensive courses.

What happens in each of these programs?

One-day programs are recommended for players in all levels, but especially with players in the beginning until intermediate level, because it teaches students the basics of playing golf. These programs are conducted by separating players into small groups with other players from their own playing level. This way, everybody’s on level footing and nobody gets left behind. Depending on the arranged lessons, these programs can run from one day to two days to three days.

There are one-on-one programs or private instruction lessons, designed to improve the student’s current level of performance. Depending on the school, these lessons are, most of the time, taught by a professional golfer. What to teach about golf and how to teach it to the student will be determined by his abilities and playing level. These programs are designed to help the golfer achieve that perfect swing and lower their score.

Big or small companies can also book golf outings at golf schools for their employees. Depending on the number of employees and their level of abilities and commitment in golf, golf schools and golf academy can design a program to fit their needs. These programs can provide clinics and small learning groups for the employees. Most golf academy even offers lodging so that employees be able to enjoy playing golf uninterrupted.

There are also golf schools that offer more intensive courses for golfers who want to turn their passion into a successful career. These are longer programs that cater to people who want to play golf for a living and want to work in the golf business. These are the people who want to specialize in golf operations and golf management. This mostly concentrates on the business side of golf and not just the professional game of golf.

Which one is best for you?

The best thing about a lot of these programs is that golf schools and golf academy do not put too many students in a program. This enables the instructor or teacher to concentrate on the issues of his every student and the student can concentrate on his playing game without having to compete for the attention of his instructor. Having low teacher to student ratios is important during your overall study of golf.

Have you chosen a golf school yet?

Another good thing about these schools is that a potential student does not have to worry about moving to the other side of the country to be able to attend a program at a specific golf school. Most golf academy has different locations all over the country, both on the East, West and all states in between.

No matter what golf school you decide on, you’ll be sure to learn a lot from the professional golfers these schools have employed as instructors. To be the best, you have to learn from the professional golfers these schools have employed as instructors. To be the best, you have to learn from the best.

The Top Academy of Golf

Friday, October 31st, 2008

How are the top golf schools in America determined?

Are you planning on becoming the next greatest golfer in the league? Or are you planning to venture into a very successful career in the business world of golf? Congratulations! You have decided to turn your hobby and passion into a fruitful reality. The first thing you’ll need to do is attend a golf academy or golf school to learn the basics. Attending will teach you, not only the basics, but also you how to focus on your game and goal and develop discipline along the way. An academy of golf can offer instruction and help the student develop the skills he needs to succeed in the game and in business.

But which academy of golf should you attend? Which is the best one for you?

Golf.com has listed the top 25 golf schools in the US. A Golf School Evaluation Plan was formed to study the qualifications of each golf school in the country and how it fared against other schools. They compared each school using several criteria to determine which ones are the best. These schools were determined and ranked using six criteria: breadth of programs, student-to-teacher ratio, technology, instruction hours, facilities/accommodations and level of experience.

All these top 25 schools have one thing in common: they all offer programs that help improve a student’s game. Since the primary goal of attending an academy of golf is improve his own game and reach the professional level, it only makes sense that these schools are ready to help you deliver your A-game all the time.

All these schools also offer a good student-to-teacher ratio. The judging panel agreed, the smaller the ratio, the better because this gives the teacher a chance to be able to focus and study the level and skills of the student. This, in turn, puts him in a better position to assess and implement the necessary steps to improve the student’s game. For short courses, a lot of these schools offer a 3:1 student-teacher ratio while longer courses or program have a higher number of students per teacher.

Additionally, these schools offer the latest in technology. They all offer a computer and video analysis of your game. The student is captured through video that he can watch in detail with the instructor. This helps the student to determine what he is doing right and what skills he still needs to improve. The video will allow you to put into slow motion your swing, the angle, the force at which you hit the ball, all allowing you and your instructor to critique your performance.

Hours of instruction were also part of the criteria for judging the top 25 schools in the US. These are schools that prioritize playing time and incorporated them into the lesson plan. An academy of golf that doesn’t include time on the golf course as part of the lesson does not greatly benefit the student. Hearing and reading techniques is not the same as actually going on the greens and practicing it himself. Practice makes perfect after all.

Facilities and accommodations were also taken into consideration. Some of these schools don’t offer state-of-the-art facilities while some offer the best facilities there is to accurately assess the student’s abilities and skills in golf. One thing the judges agree on is that all these institutions provide practice facilities that are essential for any golfer who seriously wants to improve their game.

These schools are also taught by dedicated and experienced instructors and staff that include the Top 100 Golf Teachers as judged by Golf.com. These Top 100 Teachers are all members of the Professional Golfer’s Association (PGA) of America and are determined to make you reach your full potential in the game of golf.

It will be tough to decide the best academy of golf for you since all of them offer unique features that can and will help you develop the skills to compete at the professional level. But no matter which school you decide to go to, it will eventually depend on your level of commitment.

Golf Bags – Find an Online Bargain

Friday, October 31st, 2008

If you can’t open your closet because it is so stuffed with designer handbags that if you even turn the knob, a tidal wave of purses will turn your bedroom into a mess, you need help. If you are trying, unsuccessfully, to curb your designer handbag addiction, here are 10 steps to help you give up your designer purse curse.

Giving up your straight-up Handbag addiction!

1. Unlike with a lot of self-help programs, you don’t want to try and go cold turkey and stop buying handbags altogether. If you are addicted to handbags it won’t work. The first step is to realize that you can’t stop your addiction suddenly.

2. The second step is to make a budget. You aren’t just going to make a budget for your handbags, listing exactly how many Marc Jacobs you can buy versus Coach bags. You are going to make a budget for everything in your life including rent, utilities and car insurance. Yes, it’s a drag, but you have to do it.

3. Now that you have your budget in hand, you are going to limit how many purses you purchase. If you only have $100 extra in your budget, and the Marc Jacobs Clutch costs about $400, you will now know that you can afford to buy one every three months, instead of buying the green leather one and the black one at the same time.

4. If you are having a problem keeping your willpower to not buy a designer handbag, you are going to want to prevent a rash purchase. 20 years ago you would just put the money into a bank, which would have pretty much prevented you from buying a handbag, but with shopping online and ATMs, you are going to want to literally freeze your plastic. Get a big container, fill it with water, put your credit cards in it, and stick it in the freezer. That way, if you want to make a purchase you have to wait for the money to thaw out.

5. Try to avoid temptations. Throw away the tabloids or just don’t purchase them to avoid seeing handbags. If you look in some of these rags, you’ll see that every week a new celebrity is carrying around a different designer handbag. Sure, it’s nice to see who has the same bag that you want, but it’s just too tempting to buy the latest it-bag.

6. If you are feeling a bit depressed about not having the latest bag, organize your own collection. Even if you only have a couple of purses, you can spend the time that you would normally spend shopping doing a bit of work on them.

7. If you are sick and tired of carrying around the same handbag, you may want to take some of your older bags out of retirement. Sure, they may have been popular couple years ago, but that doesn’t mean you still can’t carry them around today. A good handbag will always be a good handbag.

8. To get something new into your wardrobe, you may have to trade or borrow. Hey, it’s won’t cost you a lot of money, and no one has to know it’s not yours.

9. Handbags are expensive things to collect, so you may want to start on another collection. Why not start a stamp collection? Stamps are only $.49 so you could literally buy hundreds of them (if not thousands) for the price of one handbag.

10. If it is that tough to give up your handbag addiction, you may just want go ahead and buy one. You’ll be disappointed in yourself, but at least you will have the satisfaction of carrying around the latest bag!

Basketball Hoops – How to Work Out at Home

Friday, October 31st, 2008

Exercise isn’t limited to the gym, there is no membership required to get healthy. With a little planning, you can create a workout plan that is both fun and good for you. The bonus is that you can do it all from home.

When considering working out at home, there are several aspects of the fitness picture to consider. You’ll want to be sure you’ve got a plan for aerobic training, strength training, and stretching. You’ll want to consider the weather in your area and plan both indoor and outdoor activities that will work for your location.

There are lots of options for aerobic training, including videos or machines at home, individual activities such as weight lifting, running, swimming, biking etc, or sports related activities such as tennis, basketball, racket ball or other active sports games.

Before you invest in expensive exercise equipment, take inventory of the resources available for your home? Can you install one of those portable basketball hoops in your driveway? Could you pick up a cheap treadmill at a yard sale?

Once you’ve taken stock in what is already available to you, you’ll want to fill out your plan from there. You want to make sure you have a plan for aerobic activities when it is rainy or to cold for being outdoors. This is when the videos and indoor machines come in handy. If you decide on an exercise machine, considering the cost, you’ll want to choose the one you are most likely to enjoy using. Videos are less expensive and take up less space, but if you don’t think you’ll use them, they would still be a waste. You want to make sure that you will use and enjoy any equipment that you actually purchase.

Depending on your current health and condition, you have options in strength training as well. If you are a beginner, you can build a strength-training plan using hand weights, bands and an exercise ball. Or just with a basic barbell and weights.

There are lots of resources online that can help you figure out which exercises to do and how to do them. You can build a routine and purchase all of the equipment you really need for under $50 if you are willing to be creative.

If you have trained with weights already, you may want to go ahead and invest in a weight bench and some weights. However, you will still be able to work most of your muscles without investing in a large machine that costs thousands of dollars and fills an entire room in your house.

Stretching, on the other hand, is an activity that is critical to overall fitness but is often overlooked. Fortunately, you don’t need any extra equipment at all to stretch. Again, a quick online search will lead you to many resources for stretching routines. If you’d rather have something a bit more structured, Yoga, Pilaties or other such videos can be used.

All of these activities can either be done at home, or based from home, don’t require a membership commitment, and won’t cost you a fortune. Best of all, regular exercise will help you both feel and look better. Remembering to vary your workout routine and make a plan for inclement weather will help you avoid loosing momentum and finding a workout partner will help you stay motivated. With all of this in mind, today is a good day to make your workout plan and get started.

A fun way to work out from home is by getting a basketball hoop for your driveway and making it a habit to get out their and play. Shop from a wide variety of hoops and goals at this cool online store. Find portable systems and in ground goals for your driveway or park.

Basketball Goals- The Family That Plays Together

Friday, October 31st, 2008

Families need playtime together. They need a chance to relax, have fun and play. So often, families are so busy with the different activities and responsibilities that they forget to get together and reconnect. Making time for the family to be together may take some serious effort, but it is sure to come with some serious rewards.

Getting the family together for dinner is a great start and should be done often, but there are added benefits to be had when the family starts to play. Family members relax, conversations happen and bonds are built. Family playtime is a tradition well worth the time and effort involved. Children deserve to have fond memories of childhood that include family activities. These memories become a treasured part of childhood that will be carried with them throughout their lives.

Play can come in many different forms, but the best type of play will allow for conversation. Playful competition can be healthy, but care should be taken to avoid letting it take a serious turn. After all, winning the game is not the goal, building memories and having fun are much more important.

Family game nights are a great way to get the group together and can include board games, card games or video games. Care should be taken to make sure all members are included, especially if the activity revolves around video games as the number of players is limited. Card games are often a great choice for larger families and a rousing game of Uno can even overcome the reluctance of many a sullen teenager. Board games, carefully chosen, will also provide lots of opportunities for friendly chatter. Just be careful to choose a game that will fit the timeslot available. A rousing game of Monopoly might not be the best choice for a school night.

Taking the family outside is also a great choice. Outdoor games can be as simple as a casual game of soccer in the backyard, tossing the Frisbee around or finding local basketball hoops for a quick game. A full blown game of basketball will keep everyone around a bit longer and should really help family members let their guards down and relax.

Playing hard is a great way to open the lines of communication and you may be surprised at the conversations that come after the game as well. Portable and adjustable basketball hoops make it easy to have a quick game in your own driveway.

Be sure to plan a variety of activities to keep the family interested and having fun. You don’t want to play video games every Monday night if one member of the family really isn’t into them. Keeping the activities varied will help ensure that each family member’s strengths are recognized and each has a chance to shine. Setting a regular day for these family days will help members plan around them, but if that doesn’t work for your family, just be sure to have them as often as you can.

Pint-Sized Players

Friday, October 31st, 2008

These days, even the littlest school children are playing team sports. They are out there in droves with their whole families watching while they are playing t-ball, peewee football, soccer and even basketball. The rules of the games are simplified to allow these littlest players to learn the basics while having fun and the playing fields and basketball hoops are sized down to fit the players. Watching these pint-sized players makes a person feel good in so many different ways.

Imagine a late spring evening, the park lights are on, cars line the streets and families are out in droves to support the team. The players aren’t much bigger than a regular baseball bat, but their love of the game is as big as the field they’re playing on. The little players learn the basics of the game and enjoy the benefits of their own accomplishments. The excitement that each little play generates rivals that of any major league team.

Now imagine a wide field marked into numerous smaller soccer fields. The smallest fields with the smallest players have but four players on each side and no goalie. The players run determined behind the ball in a little bunch as it is dribbled up and down the field.

Each player tries his or her hardest to get the ball away from the group and guide it down the field to kick it into the goal. The parents, siblings and grandparents on the sidelines cheer each little attempt and personal accomplishment, often for other players on the team as well as their own. Applause is heard from all whenever one of these littlest players scores, even if it is a score for the other team.

Basketball for the little guys is played on half courts with adjustable basketball hoops that have been lowered to fit the height of these smaller players. They take as much pride in their ability to score a goal as the big guys do though and are cheered just as enthusiastically. Their games are often indoors and out of the chilly weather that often accompanies basketball season. Inside, the court is brightly lit and the players heat up the court as they show their newly acquired dribbling and passing skills. It isn’t hard to imagine, once again, the cheers and enthusiasm of parents and friends as the players make their moves.

Team sports offer so much to the child, the family and the community as a whole. The children are active, setting the tone for a healthy lifestyle and building skills that will enable them to continue playing and enjoying the health benefits of vigorous activity. They are also benefiting from the experience of playing as a team while building friendships that last through the years.

The families are coming together to enjoy the accomplishments of the player and in doing so are spending some quality time together. The community grows closer as players and parents get to know each other and come together regularly, cheering each other’s accomplishments and commiserating with each other in defeats.

Diabetic Chocolates

Friday, October 31st, 2008

For those who just found out that they are diabetic or simply want to go low-carbohydrate in their diet the hardest things to give up are pasta and breads. As a few of my diabetic friends and relatives have said those foods are a main part of their diet. So that leads to finding sugar-free alternates that taste good. Being diabetic doesn’t mean that you have to give up on you favorite foods like pasta. There has been recent studies on soluble fiber to help in that dilemma. Soluble fiber has been shown to slow down digestion so therefore it allows for the slower absorption of glucose giving beneficial effects on those with diabetes. Soluble fiber also helps in weight loss because it prolongs the fullness feeling in digestion.

So companies that specialize in sugar-free foods to give people that have to be more aware of how much carbohydrates they consume more choices in food.

So companies that make sugar-free pasta have turned to using soluble fiber in their pasta took bring back pasta that diabetics miss.

Pasta is just one of many things that diabetics once again can enjoy now that more food producing companies are aware of the need and demand.

There are sugar-free peanut butters, jellies and whole host of other foods that are sugar-free and safe for diabetics to enjoy.

To go with your pasta for a start there is Walden Farms who have come up with a whole line of sauces like marina, fettuccine, barbecue sauces and ketchup that are sugar-free. So once again you can enjoy food with flavor.

Next on the list is breads that people miss.

Back in 2003, Holsum Bakery, Inc had added a new line to their breads, it is Aunt Hattie’s sugar-free and 100% whole grain wheat bread.

If you like to make your own baked goods then here is something that would be of interest to you, Carbquick. This product can be used in the same recipes as Bisquik but without 90% of the carbohydrates.

For those of you who are sensitive to the polyols there are some products which contain no sugar and have no sugar alcohols.

Carbsmart has a whole line of products that contain no sugar alcohols designed for those who have digestive problems when they consume products that contain sugar alcohols like maltitol. Another such line is Dixie Carb Counters.

As today’s society are getting more aware of the problems that a high carbohydrate diet can lead to. The demand for safe alternatives to favorite foods is growing.

As one can see not just the candy industry is trying to cut carbohydrates out for our loved ones that are on restricted diets. As well as for those who desire to go low-carbohydrate to prevent problems later.

And speaking of candy lets not forget the downfall of a lot of diabetics and other diet restricted people.

Yes, I am talking about CHOCOLATE!

Don’t worry though a lot of the candy companies that produce that particular sweet have you covered. The only problem it seems is choosing the chocolate that appeals to you or the diabetic chocoholic in your life.

Chris Alleny writes about various subjects including food. For more information on Diabetic chocolates visit www.ultimatechocolateshoppe.com
